BRIEFING ON THE RESULTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CONFERENCE OF LANDLOCKED COUNTRIES WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN

On August 19, 2022, a briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the results of the International Conference of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries, held under the auspices of the UN on August 15-16 this year in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

The briefing was attended by heads of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations working in Ashgabat, foreign journalists accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as heads and representatives of national media.

Speaking at the briefing, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov noted the high international significance of the transport conference. In this regard, the head of the Foreign Ministry stressed that the development of transport is one of the key conditions for the stable economic development of landlocked countries, as well as the further expansion of the entire range of interstate relations at the regional and international levels.

During the briefing, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan D. Shlapachenko, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan A. Blokhin, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan A. Kuchkarov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan A. Tazhibayev, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Turkmenistan Gholam Abbas Arbab Khales, Ambassador of French Republic to Turkmenistan I. Guisnel and others.

In the speeches, it was noted that this conference continues the Ashgabat process on sustainable transport in 2016, strengthens and develops its intensity in the interests of countries located in regions geographically remote from the world's oceans.

Within the framework of the forum, negotiations were held in bilateral and multilateral formats. Also, the Conference venue became the venue for the second meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Ashgabat Agreement participating countries and the First Meeting of Ministers of Transport in the “Central Asia – Middle East – Africa” format.

On the sidelines of the Conference, four documents were signed to strengthen the legal framework for cooperation in the field of transport and communications.

The initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan, expressed from the rostrum of the Ministerial Conference in a video message to the participants of the Forum, were directly coordinated with the content of the speeches and discussions held during the ministerial segment and thematic sessions. Particularly significant is the reflection of these positions in the final document of the International Conference - the Avaza Final Statement.
