A MEETING WITH THE REGIONAL AMBASSADOR OF COP26 WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN
On October 25, 2022, in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V. Hajiyev and the COP26 Regional Ambassador for Europe, Central Asia, Turkey and Iran David Moran, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit to participate in the Youth Climate Conference.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues of effective international and regional cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and environmental safety, which are of paramount importance and are one of the foundations of the state policy of Turkmenistan. In this regard, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan is a party to more than 20 multilateral international documents in the environmental field.
Emphasizing the need to intensify regional cooperation on climate issues in Central Asia and the formation of sustainable partnership mechanisms here, the parties considered the possibility of creating regional centers, joint long-term programs and projects on environmental issues and climate change.
The issues of close cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UK in the scientific and environmental sphere were also considered. In this context, the importance of establishing interactions between scientific institutions and agencies was noted, and it was also proposed to organize specialized seminars and trainings on climate issues for the scientific community of the country with the participation of British specialists.
In addition, the participation of a representative Turkmen delegation at the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow in November last year was noted, which indicates the responsible approach of Turkmenistan to the issues under consideration.
