BRIEFING DEDICATED TO TURKMENISTAN’S PRIORITY POSITIONS AT THE 73RD SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
On September 24, 2018, the briefing dedicated to Turkmenistan’s priority positions at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The heads and representatives of the embassies and international organizations, accredited in Turkmenistan, representatives of national and foreign media attended the briefing.
In the course of the briefing, the speakers informed participants of President’s program of the visit and our country’s priority positions which will be voiced by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from high rostrum of the UN General Assembly.
Turkmenistan will be guided in its work by strict adherence to principles of neutrality, non-interference, commitment to peaceful political tools when resolving conflicts and disputes at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. The cooperation areas of Turkmenistan will be determined due to its membership in Economic and Social Council of the UN, Executive Council of UNICEF and other specialized bodies of the UN.
In the course of this session, our country will continue implementing international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan on addressing regional and global issues. Turkmenistan considers further joint efforts of states in disarmament, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, countering terrorism, extremism, and drugs and their precursors trafficking as priority areas in the work of international community.
The speakers have noted that further strengthening partnership in sustainable development (SDGs), cooperation in the fields of transport, energy, environmental protection, rational use of natural resources and ensuring environmental security were among important foreign policy strategies of Turkmenistan.
Moreover, the need to determine the legal status of youth in a modern state has been noted as one of the priority tasks of the country because the youth acts as key social indicator and determines to a large extent future progressive and innovative development of society and state.
The representatives of media and diplomats had an opportunity to have their concrete questions answered during the briefing.
