TURKMENISTAN AND THE EU DISCUSSED INTERNATIONAL ISSUES AND COOPERATION IN ENERGY SECTOR
On October 11-12, 2018, the Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov was on a working visit to Brussels.
On October 12, 2018, in the first half of the day, the delegation of Turkmenistan had a meeting with European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Mr. Maroš Šefčovič. In the course of meeting, the matters related to activating cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the energy sector were discussed.
The same day, there was a meeting with High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ms. Federica Mogerini and further aspects of cooperation between the EU and Turkmenistan were discussed. The parties also touched upon regional security issues.
Then, there was a meeting with Head of Cabinet for transport Mr. Matej Zakonjsek. During the meeting, the parties considered transport and transit route development issues that could connect Central Asian region with EU states, as well as the UN GA Resolutions in the field of sustainable transport that were adopted at the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan. Moreover, it was noted that, the strategy pursued by Turkmenistan in this direction are in line with EU strategy for interconnection between Europe and Asia.
The issues of interaction between Turkmenistan and EU have been discussed during working lunch with the participation of members of European parliament and the representatives of European Commission structures.
