THE PARTICIPANTS DISCUSSED THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN TURKMENISTAN

On 30 March 2018, a seminar in Ashgabat organized by the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Development Program was held. The main theme of the forum was the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for the period until 2030 in Turkmenistan.

As the speakers noted, the basis of the state strategy initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid the maximally transparent concept of universal security, the principle of unity and mutual adaptation of views on the solution of the most important issues of world politics for the successful implementation of the SDGs.

Turkmenistan was one of the first countries to start consultations on adapting the goals of sustainable development to national conditions, successfully implementing the necessary measures. In this context, it was stressed that almost immediately after the summit of the United Nations, the UN Country Team and the Government of our state agreed on a three-stage plan for the implementation of the universal program document.

The implementation of the Agenda after 2015 in accordance with the obligations of UN member countries under international law requires an integrated approach to collective action at all levels. The goals and tasks defined in this document address the most pressing problems of our time.

In the presentations of the participants of the seminar, concrete examples of the successes achieved were shown for almost all the tasks of the Agenda until 2030, in particular, in the area of improving the people's well-being, education, health, economic activity, ensuring gender equality, environmental sustainability, etc.

During the seminar, the most optimal ways and mechanisms for assessing the SDG measurement process in Turkmenistan were discussed in details.
