PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN MEETS IN NEW YORK WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE “TURKMENISTAN-USA” BUSINESS COUNCIL

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to New York, had meetings with representatives of the “Turkmenistan-USA” Business Council. In particular, the talks were held with the executive director of the “Turkmenistan-USA” Business Council, Eric Stewart.

Expressing sincere appreciation for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the businessman congratulated the Turkmen leader on his successful performance at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. Eric Stewart expressed confidence that the important initiatives voiced by the President of Turkmenistan will be supported not only by public and political circles, but also by business circles of the world.

A special topic of discussion was the activity of the Business Council "Turkmenistan-USA" and its role in strengthening inter-state relations. It was emphasized that the participants of the upcoming meeting of the Business Council were one third more than planned: US companies, as well as the UK and Canada ones. In this context, the agenda of the next meeting of the Council was discussed. At the end of the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in the successful development of interaction.

Then President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Brian Lopp, Director of International Sales at “Boeing”.

During the meeting a keen exchange of views took place on the prospects for further enhancing productive cooperation. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that recently a document was signed on the purchase of comfortable aircraft of the new generation “Boeing 737 MAX7”, stressing that the use of modern flight technology will significantly expand the capabilities of domestic civil aviation and ensure the further development of air cargo and passenger traffic at a decent level.

At the end of the meeting, Brian Lopp confirmed his interest in strengthening and building up mutually beneficial business contacts with Turkmen partners.

Further, negotiations were held between the head of the Turkmen state and the head of the agricultural and horticultural equipment division of John Deere - the president of the agricultural and horticultural technology division in Europe, the CIS countries, Asia and Africa Marqwart von Pentz.

During the meeting, an interested exchange of views on the state and prospects of bilateral relations took place. Informing on the steps taken in the context of the agreements reached, Mr. von Pentz made a number of proposals for expanding cooperation, including through the supply of the latest types of grain and cotton harvesters, tractors, and various agricultural equipment. New models have been developed taking into account the specific features of the climate, the soils of different regions of Turkmenistan, and the crops being cultivated.

Noting that there are ample opportunities to strengthen business relations, the head of state stressed that in this regard, the service of agricultural machinery and the training of professional engineering and technical personnel are important aspects of a long-term partnership.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Oxbow Group in the basic sectors of the national economy, in particular, the prospects for partnership in the fuel and energy sector, in the training of highly qualified specialists, and in several other priority areas of state development were discussed.

As the head of Oxbow emphasized, the US business community is interested in building up mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan, which demonstrates high rates of economic development. William Koch emphasized the interest of the Oxbow Group, one of the leaders in the field of processing the natural resources, in continuing purchases of petroleum coke, carbamide products and sulfur produced in Turkmenistan.

Thanking the guest for the kind words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan, having taken the course to modernize the economy, is expanding the constructive dialogue with all interested foreign partners, paying special attention to the introduction of innovative technologies.
