A MEETING OF THE TURKMEN-SAUDI INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT

On October 16-18, 2018, the sixth meeting of the Turkmen-Saudi Intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic cooperation was held in the central building of the oil and gas complex.

A representative delegation headed by the Minister of Commerce and Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the work of the commission. The delegations included the heads and representatives of leading sectoral ministries and departments of both countries.

Expressing sincere gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Government of Turkmenistan for the warm welcome, the head of the delegation of a friendly country noted that the results of the regular meeting will contribute to the further expansion of interstate cooperation built on the principles of mutual respect and equality.

Having positively assessed the results of the work done on the practical implementation of the agreements reached earlier, the members of the commission discussed issues of enhancing cooperation in a number of areas of activity. As part of the exchange of views, specific proposals were made to expand the partnership in the textile and food industries, in the banking sector, in the fuel and energy sector, in particular, to increase investment in the TAPI gas pipeline construction project.

Noting the existing opportunities for the further development of fruitful trade-economic cooperation, the meeting participants expressed the need to coordinate efforts to increase the volume of export-import products. In this context, the importance of organizing meetings between the business circles of the two countries was emphasized, which will contribute to the implementation of new investment projects.

Practical steps aimed at strengthening the Turkmen-Saudi humanitarian ties, particularly in the cultural, scientific and educational fields, in the field of tourism were identified.

Following the meeting, the relevant protocol was signed.
