ASTANA HOSTED THE SUMMIT "CENTRAL ASIA-EUROPEAN UNION"
On October 27, 2022 the first meeting of the leaders of "Central Asia - European Union" was held in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Hojamyrat Geldimyradov and the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
The Summit participants discussed the prospects for further deepening of partnership with the EU, and exchanged views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda of mutual interest.
The President of the European Council welcomed the efforts of the leaders of the Central Asian countries to strengthen regional cooperation and interconnectivity, outlined in the Joint Statements of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia.
As a result of the high-level meeting, a Joint Statement was adopted, according to which the parties reaffirmed their commitment to common work in the name of peace, security, democracy and the rule of law.
The participants welcomed the institutionalization of relations between Central Asia and the EU within the existing high-level platforms, and noted the importance of the active involvement of civil society in the development of interregional cooperation.
The parties stressed their interest in trade and economic cooperation and building cross-border partnerships, as well as approved the new platform of the EU-Central Asia Economic Forum.
The countries expressed their commitment to the development of a "green" economy and took into account the positive experience of the EU in this area.
The participants expressed their interest in strengthening joint actions in the field of "green development", environmental protection and climate change in accordance with the Paris commitments of the parties.
